The second week of the school holiday saw 11 teams partake in the AON BBNZ Under 13 Central & Capital Regional tournament.

From the Manawatu area we saw 8 boys’ teams and 4 girls teams play over a 4-day tournament.

Teams either played in the A Grade, B Grade or C Grade. From the Tararua area we had the Pahiatua Blazers boys’ team and the Tararua Mana girls’ team. This was the first experience that these athletes had playing in 8-minute stop clock quarters, FIBA rules.

Under the guidance of their respective coaches, Bonnie Scott and Justine Tui, both teams were gallant, and played with the enthusiasm and a never give up attitude throughout the entire tournament.

The Tararua Mana team deserves a special mention because they were experiencing their first time ever playing basketball. The support of the parents and management enabled the girls to stay motivated and enjoy to the moment.
